Black Lives Matter
Who: Stephen Lam/ Reuters
What: A protester in ferguson
Where: Ferguson, MO
Why: Protesting against institutional racism, and the Jury's decision to not indict Darren Wilson, who is responsible for shooting unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown last august.
How: Probably technically illegally, seeing as how almost all journalists on the scene were unjustedly arrested.
Good, Bad, or ugly? {Isn't that the name of a movie?}
I think it's very good, not just aesthetically interesting, but in portraying the struggles in fighting for what you believe is right, in a calm-against-the-chaos kind of, way. And I think it's important to be aware that racism is still alive, and ignoring that and pretending it's not there is useless and won't get anyone anywhere, and people are dying because of it, and that's a lot of what the photograph stands for, essentially. And that's important.
